What is acne?

Acne is a disorder of hair bearing skin in which hair follicles develop obstructing horny plugs (comedones) as a result of which inflammation later develops around the obstructed follicles causing tissue destruction and scar formation.

 

What are the basic signs of acne?
Increase in the rate of sebum secretion making the skin look greasy is the earliest change in the process of acne. Comedones, both open (blackhead) and closed type (whitehead) are the main lesions of the acne. They are mainly seen at the sites around the nose and over the forehead but can be seen anywhere over the face. Severity of the disease varies from Comedones to red or yellow papules or complicated acne presentations like cysts and nodular lesions of the acne. Usually initial Comedones are secondarily infected with the organisms P.Acne leading to infective acne leading to scarring and pigmentation

 

What are the predisposing factors of acne?

Age, sex, atmosphere, and the self-care are the most common factors associated with acne. Usually it is seen in teenagers, rarely after teen age. It is seen more in the hot and dusty climate. Some types of acne are occupational hazards and usually seen in people working in a very hot climate. Certain medicines also exaggerate the conditions. It is observed that those who take more spices, spirit and oil are more prone to acne.

 

What are the common types of acne?

Yes there are various types of acne like Comedones, drug & chemical induced acne, cystic acne, cystic& nodular acne, oil acne, excoriated acne, Chloracne, Cosmetic acne, Hormonal acne etc.

 

How does the laser work on acne ?

Lasers cause a photochemical reaction, killing acne bacteria while reducing erythema. Also targets the sebaceous glands.  Both wavelengths stimulate collagen to improve acne scarring. The complications like pigmentation and keloid formations can also be revised.

 

Does it work on all types of acne?

How many treatments are required?

Depending upon the type of acne and the number of lesions and the complications number of treatment varies from 1 to 10 treatments.

 

Is the treatment difficult?

No.  At your first visit you physician will asses your condition and review previous treatments.  Then you will have your first full treatment with re-treatments scheduled three to six weeks apart for the next three to four months.  Each treatment will typically last 15 to 20 minutes.

 

Is the treatment painful?

There is some minor discomfort associated with the treatment.  Most patients describe the treatment as a series of rubber band snaps to the skin.  At KIRTI we have all the facilities that convert discomfort into comfort.

 

Will laser treatment be more effective than creams or drugs?

Your results should be comparable to other types of treatment.

·  Can control the excessive sebum production

 

Will laser treatment make my acne worse?

Laser treatment is designed to gently target and reduce the redness associated with inflammatory acne.  It will not aggravate an existing condition.  However, is the underlying causes of your acne condition change, your acne could worsen independent of the laser treatment.
