An inflammation of the upper layers of the skin, causing blisters, redness,
swelling, oozing, scabbing, scaling, and usually itching. Continuous
scratching and rubbing May eventually lead to thickening and hardening of
the skin. Some types of dermatitis affect only specific parts of the body.
It is a form of
dermatitis characterized by chronically itchy, inflamed skin. The affected
area typically becomes dry, the skin flakes off, and blisters occasionally
develop. When eczema appears on fair-skinned people, the affected areas
typically turn a brownish gray color; it generally alters their natural
pigmentation, making the affected area either lighter or darker.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of eczema can be made from its site, location and appearance
(morphology) and history. It is generally a chronic, recurring condition.
Exposure to environmental irritants may worsen symptoms, as can dryness of
the skin, temperature changes, and stress. Nummular eczema can also be
aggravated by eating foods containing iodides or bromides. Apart from this
contact irritants can also lead to eczema. Simple rash can also lead to
eczema.
Symptoms

What are the
treatments available for eczema?
There are medicines
that can control the disease. PUVA or Narrow band UVB that can give
very good results for some time, but now with the help of LASERS you
can achieve control over the disease for as long as life time.

What is the post operative medication required?
You don’t require any
kind of post operative medications, rather they are contraindicated.
Maximum one may require would be an emollient or an antipruritic as
there may be itching sensations as the lesion heals.
How
many treatments are required?
Depending upon the
extent of the disease, 5 to 20 treatments may be required.
What is the desired interval between 2 treatments?
The interval between
two treatments varies from case to case, but it can be any thing between
2 days to 30 days.
Does it cause any side or adverse effect?
No, no side effects
are produced with the treatment. IT is always very safe laser and
maximum it can cause sun burn like effect that requires few hours or
days to disappear.
What are the chances of recurrences?
Very few patients
require some touch ups in the future may be once in 3 to 4 years. The
recurrences are not aggressive until and unless it is produced by some
very harsh physical stimuli. The patient will not require even any
topical applications in between.
What are the advantages over the Medications and Phototherapy?
Usual medications
used in eczema are either Steroids Steroids are one of the silent
poison and when given in larger and continuous dosages creates very
hazardous effect on all the systems of the body and when topical
applications are continued for longer time it may lead to atrophic
changes in the skin. Phototherapy regresses the lesion temporarily where
as the Lasers cure the condition from within.
