Viral Warts

Warts are caused by a member of the Papilloma Virus family, the human Papilloma Virus , of which many are antigenic types. Particular clinical types of wart are caused by particular antigenic types. It is likely that they are caught by direct contact of the skin wart virus - containing horny debris. Genital warts are caught mostly (but not exclusively) by veneral contact. Some perianal warts may be transmitted by homosexual contact or by child abuse but this is by no means invariable. These lesions are so common that they hardly require description.

What are the usual modalities of the treatment of the viral warts?

There are no antiviral that may work on the warts.

What are the treatments available ?

There are multiple options available for the treatment like for very mild condition and for genital warts one may use  topical high concentration of Salicylic acid, Podophyllium, immidquimod, 5-flurouracil . For rest of the warts, cauterization of the lesion, Cryo spray or Radio Surgery or Ablative and or Non ablative lasers are the alternatives of the lasers.

Why is Laser superior to all of the other modalities?

Lasers can take up only the wart tissue. You don’t have to tease or treat the surrounding skin and more over lasers can coagulate the vessels while treatment is on so there is no bleeding. Lasers evaporate the wart and leave no scar or pigment change. This very important as all rest of the other treatment modalities are going to leave some eminence. More over treatment with laser is very comfortable in comparison with other modalities. IT takes very short time to heal, say for small lesion only 48 hours to 72 hours and for large one around 98 hours.

What is Non Ablative laser surgery for warts?

It is the removal of the wart without any kind of ablation, cutting or scrapping. Just fire laser shots over the wart and in another few seconds it will turn grayish and in another few days it will disappear from the place. It does not require any medication or pricks.

Where is Non ablative laser recommended?

It is the treatment for recalcitrant, non responsive and very large warts where scar is going to be generated with any other modality. It is the best treatment for the genital wart and the warts under the nails where the ablative surgery or the other modalities are not going to be possible as the patient is going to loose the nail or disfigure it permanently.

Where is NON ABLATIVE surgery available?

In Asia, KIRTI LASER CENTRE is the only centre performing this surg

What are the side effects?

There is no side effect of this surgery as you are not cutting or chopping the skin, there is no anesthesia or medications involved or you are not burning the skin at all. It can be perform on 1day old child and the child will not cry.
